Brussels, the capital of Belgium and the heart of the European Union, is a city where centuries-old history meets modern culture. With its cobbled streets, magnificent architecture, and vibrant food scene, Brussels offers a unique charm to every traveler. Whether you’re a lover of art, a history enthusiast, or a foodie, this city has something for everyone. Let's dive into some of the highlights that make Brussels a must-visit destination.
Coming to Brussels from Amsterdam was actually quite easy. We caught a bus from Amsterdam and it was a non stop trip to Brussels. The bus ticket cost as little as 13 euros and it was only a 3 hour journey.
The grand place is one of the most beautiful squares in the world. Opulent guildhalls, the City Hall, and the King's House surround the grand place. The square reflects a range of architectural styles from Gothic to Baroque. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, it is the perfect starting point for a tour of Brussels’ historical center.
The Atomium is also another tourist attraction worth visiting. The Atomium is a massive structure designed for the 1958 World Expo. Representing an iron crystal magnified 165 billion times, it is a symbol of modernity and innovation. Inside there are exhibitions on art, science, and design. The sphere on top provides panoramic views of the city.
Brussels is synonymous with world-class chocolates, waffles, and, of course, Belgian beer. Start your gastronomic journey with a visit to one of the many chocolatiers, such as Pierre Marcolini or Neuhaus, where you can sample decadent pralines and truffles. For a quick snack definitely try the belgium waffle. It's crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. No matter what toppings or drizzle you decide to get it is a treat you won't forget. Belgian beer has over 1,500 varieties to choose from. Once a year there is a beer fest where many different stalls come together with all sorts of beer and it is one wild party.
For a break from the urban hustle, Brussels boasts beautiful parks and gardens. Parc du Cinquantenaire, with its triumphal arch and surrounding museums, is a great place for a leisurely afternoon. You can also explore the Botanical Garden of Brussels, a serene escape featuring an impressive range of plant species and seasonal blooms.
Whether you're marveling at the Grand Place, savoring a waffle, or admiring world-class art, Brussels enchants with its blend of tradition, culture, and modernity. A trip to this cosmopolitan city promises an enriching experience that leaves every visitor with unforgettable memories. So, whether you're planning a weekend getaway or a longer stay, Brussels should be at the top of your travel list.
